Successful Implementation of ProBLeMS Project Activities in Kosovo

Within the Erasmus+ project ProBLeMS – “Development and Implementation of Metacognitive Problem-Based Modules in Blended Learning Courses in Medical Sciences” (Project No. 101082790), a series of workshops, working group meetings, and an international conference were successfully held from June 8 to 14, 2025, in Kosovo.
The activities were organized at the International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM) and the University of Pristina in Kosovska Mitrovica (UPKM), bringing together representatives of partner institutions from the region and the European Union with the aim of strengthening capacities for the implementation of metacognitive problem-based (MCPB) modules in medical education.
The first part of the programme, held at IBCM from June 8 to 10, was dedicated to the development of human resource capacities and working group activities. Participants discussed the transfer of knowledge and experiences related to the implementation of the latest project amendments agreed upon during the meeting in Innsbruck, as well as opportunities for applying MCPB modules beyond medical sciences, particularly in the field of environmental protection.
Special attention was devoted to practical skills training and the presentation of IBCM experiences in implementing metacognitive problem-based learning approaches. The sessions emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and innovative educational methodologies in contemporary higher education.
From June 11 to 14, project activities continued at the University of Pristina in Kosovska Mitrovica. During the meetings and workshops, participants presented institutional experiences in implementing MCPB modules, examples of adopted educational solutions, and results achieved within teaching processes.
Participants also visited the Faculty of Medicine, the CEBSIT Center, and specialized MCPB classrooms, where practical demonstrations of module implementation were organized in the fields of medical statistics, preventive medicine, basic medical sciences, and clinical medicine. Discussions additionally focused on the future development of MCPB modules in interdisciplinary areas and the application of artificial intelligence in medical education.
A particularly significant segment of the programme was the session dedicated to the MCPB modules organized within the International Conference held on June 13, 2025, in Kosovska Mitrovica, where numerous experts and researchers presented innovative approaches in medical education. Topics included problem-based learning in virtual reality, implementation of MCPB modules in pathology and preventive medicine, the use of social media and machine learning in education, as well as the impact of metacognitive awareness on student learning outcomes.
The conference highlighted the growing importance of digital technologies, simulation models, virtual reality, and interdisciplinary approaches in modern medical education. Participants particularly emphasized that metacognitive problem-based learning contributes to the development of critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and practical competencies among students.
The final day of activities was dedicated to meetings of the project management and advisory bodies, as well as quality control sessions focused on analyzing achieved results and preparing partner institutions for future curriculum revision processes in accordance with Erasmus+ standards and project objectives.
The successful realization of these activities further strengthened cooperation among partner institutions and confirmed the importance of the ProBLeMS project in the modernization and internationalization of higher education in the field of medical sciences.
